What is A1? |
A1 is one of the oldest and biggest English schools in Lublin, Poland. Since 1990 we have been teaching English at every level of proficiency, ranging from complete beginners through to students preparing for Certifiate of Proficiency in English.
The school uses a predominantly communivative approach, which means that our aim is to get our students to use English rather than learn about it. The approach we are using puts the learner in the centre of the learning process which, with very small groups, allows us to attend to each learner individually.
Each group is taught by a few teachers which makes it possible for the learners to get used to different varieties of English and to compare teaching techniques implemented by different teachers. Besides, our teachers are becoming more and more competitive which makes the classes more and more attractive.
Cambridge Exams groups (FCE, CAE and CPE) are taught by two teachers and each focuses on particular parts of the exam (listening, speaking and writing or reading and use of English). The statistics verify the effectiveness of this method - each term more than 90 per cent of the candidates pass the exams. As we were the first school in Lublin to prepare for CAE and CPE, we simply know how to do it!
All our courses are held in the school building in the very centre of Lublin. We offer a vast repertoire of courses, both General English for all age levels, as well as specialised ones.
All our candidates, before entering the course, have to undergo a placement test so as to be put at the appropriate level. The test checks candidate's knowledge and ability to use English, including grammar, vocabulary, writing, listening and speaking. The test is carried out on a one-to-one basis.
For every course there are two 90-minute sessions (two teaching hours) a week. The exceptions are young learners' groups which meet twice a week for 60 minutes. The class size is eight to ten.
On completion of each level in adult and teenager groups, learners do a test which checks their mastery of the material covered during the course. The progression to a higher level depends on learner's achievement in the test (the passmark is 60 per cent).
Our staff are qualified, fully-fledged teachers with all the necessary qualifications, both ELT as well as educational psychology and pedagogy. Most of our teachers are also lecturers in the departments of English in Lublin universities, and the native speakers boast TEFL Certificates or Diplomas.
